Climate Change & Ocean – Red Sea Egypt – 2012

October 23, 2012 - October 30, 2012

In 2012 we were in Egypt, especially the best diving area in Dahab city. Biodiversity of sea creatures is the best in this region. We examined the condition of coral reefs and seawater at various dive locations until 30 meters. We sampled at for example: The Caves, Shark & Yolanda Reef, The Islands, The Canyon. We sampled seawater and determined their temperature, pH and redox potential. We also determined the coral reef’s types and bleaching conditions.

Our main results:

  • unitil 10 meters were the branching and boulder corals, under 10 meters the soft and plate corals
  • most of the corals were in a good condition, some of them were bleached
  • seawater’s pH value were a little bit acidic (cause by global warming)
